Thanksgiving is a time of year when family and friends gather together to remember what they are most thankful for. For pet owners, their furry companions rank high on the list. It’s tempting to share Thanksgiving goodies with your pets. This is not advisable as indulgence with human food can lead to weight gain, stomach upsets, or worse. However, we have a recipe for dog-friendly pumpkin treats.
- 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 1 tsp. allspice
- 2 tbsp. canola oil
- 1/2 cup pure pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling)
- 1/4 cup natural peanut butter, smooth
- 1/4 cup water

Pumpkin makes for a good treat base, as it’s high in fiber, low in fat, and is still sweet. Try these out if you want to do something special for your pet this year.
