Most people group panting with dogs. This is because panting is how dogs cool off. However, cats sometimes also pant in a similar manner. This is unusual and may signal an underlying health issue. Here are some potential causes of cat panting.

  • Asthma
  • Respiratory infections
  • Heart failure
  • Heartworm

Going by the above list, cat panting can be a sign of a serious health issue. Though, cat panting is not always worrying. For example, if the panting occurs after strenuous activity or while the cat is anxious, that is not too worrying. Persistent panting is very concerning. Regardless, if you observe panting in your cat, it would probably be a good idea to schedule a checkup to see if there is an underlying issue.
