Spay or Neuter Pets?

Spaying or neutering your pets is a good way to help get pet homelessness under control. Besides helping the population control of pets, spaying or neutering also has some medical and behavioral benefits.

For female pets:

• Spaying helps prevent uterine infections and breast tumors.
• She will not go into heat and saves the resulting yowling and extra urinating, which can result in male dogs being attracted.

For male pets:

• Neutering helps prevent testicular cancer and some prostate problems.
• He will be less likely to roam away from home.
• He may be better behaved, and some aggression issues may be avoided.
• Neutering is not a quick fix for behavior problems and will not help or reduce behavior issues that a dog has learned.

Contrary to popular belief by many, spaying or neutering does not cause weight gain. It is lack of exercising and overfeeding that causes the extra weight to accumulate.

It is recommended to talk with a veterinarian to determine the best age for a pet to be spayed or neutered.
